Emmett Love

International best-selling author John Locke (Saving Rachel, Wish List, Now & Then, Lethal People, Lethal Experiment) tackles a new genre, with hilarious results.

“Butch Cassidy Meets City Slickers!”

“Picture if you can…Jason Bourne and Monty Python do Dodge. I give it 5 hearty pokes!”

Follow the Stone became the #1 western on Amazon/Kindle within a week and held that position until it was replaced by Don’t Poke the Bear, at which point the novels were #1 and #2!

Follow the Stone – (an Emmett Love Western – Volume 1) is a good-hearted, rollicking story about a former gunslinger and his crablike scout, who journey West with a mail order bride, a witch, and a wagon full of prostitutes!

Don’t Poke the Bear – (an Emmett Love Western – Volume 2) The saga of Emmett and Gentry continues in Don’t Poke the Bear!

After the former gunslinger and prostitute open a saloon in Dodge City, Kansas, Emmett kills a man in self-defense and winds up inheriting a dancing bear. But that surprise pales in comparison to the secret his witchy friend, Rose, has been keeping from him since the day they met…

Emmett & Gentry – (an Emmett Love Western – Volume 3)  The saga of Donovan Creed’s ancestors continues in Emmett & Gentry, the third book in the Emmett Love western adventure series.

Still in chains after serving twenty-eight months for a crime he didn’t commit, former gunslinger and sheriff, Emmett Love, heads to Dodge City to find Gentry, the love of his life. What he finds instead is a ghost town, ravaged by the Civil War, and ten town widows who are determined to make him forget about his sweetheart.

3/4 the way through with Follow the Stone! Might have to slow the Finish lol. x

  3. Joe Wirtz says:

Wow. Very nicely done. And please give us more of Love and Shrug.

  4. Linda says:

Simply put, I loved the book. I loved Emmett, Shrug and the entire cast of characters and am hoping this to become the first in a series. Having grown up in Illinois, I am familiar with and have taken a lot of teasing for pronouncing creek as crick. When you used it in the story, I was delighted. Thank you

  5. Jenelle Glanz says:

I just finished “Don’t Poke The Bear”, and loved it! There has to be another Emmett Love book!
    Thanks, Jenelle

  6. Phil Right says:

I finished “Follow the Stone” yesterday and “Don’t Poke The Bear” today, I’m hooked. I love the characters and the dialog is so much fun. But, I have to find out what happened to Gentry & Emmett, can’t wait for the next installment.

  7. Jana says:

More in this series, please. Especially with Rose.

  9. Shane says:

    John,
Thank you for a fantastic cast of characters, snappy, witty dialogue and a great plot! Could we ask for anything more? Yes. More Emmett Love novels.

…and I was pleasantly surprised to find the second novel today on Amazon.com! Sweetness. Awesome. Rad. (insert your own adjective here).

  10. Nancy says:

Just finished Don’t Poke The Bear. As with all your books it was awesome. Can’t wait to find out what happens next. I appreciate the bargain with the price of your books but have to say, I would definetly pay more.

  11. rick says:

Love the Creed series the best of the two
but the Love series was fairly entertaining.
Dropping the g on most of the words ending in “ing”
makes for a difficult read though.

  12. Jack Dennehy says:

John, I sure wish you could write as fast as I read. I really enjoy your style! Both series are unputdownable! I just finished “Don’t Poke the Bear” and loved it except the ending! When will you publish the follow up? Your style is so smooth and easy to read I check everyday for a new release. I’ve got to find out about “Sweetness” Are there any other authors that write like you, that you could recommend, to keep me occupied while you’re writting your next novel?

    Cordially,

    Jack

  13. Jack Dennehy says:

Hey Shane, Is there any more info on “Sweetness”? It’s not listed on Amazon.com Or were you refering to “Don’t Poke the Bear”

  14. Bobby Palmore says:

    Mr Locke
I’ve read all your books. First the Donavan Creed Series about which I thought “what a fun, hard to put down series of books”. I haven’t read recreationally since my days in the military, some 30+ years ago but recently bought a Kindle DX because one of my coworkers talked me into it. I somehow lucked out when looking for material to read and ‘stumbled’ upon “Lethal People”. How lucky could I get? The first in a series of ‘edge ‘o your seat’ page turners. I flew through the existing Donavan Creed novels just in time for “Vegas Moon” upon its release. I was left hungry for more. You had a fan at that point but then I researched to find that you have another series in the works. I bought and read “Follow the Stone” and instantly became a fan for life. I just finished “Don’t poke the Bear” and I gotta tell ya, I will struggle through the drudgery of life without more until the next installment of “Emmet Love” becomes available, but I’m not going to like it!! In the meantime, I will be playing tag with Rudy in my mind and in my heart. Thank you so much!!

    A fan for life,
    Bobby

  15. What a great way to escape! I have read all of your books and love them all! Keep them coming!

  16. Wm says:

I love these characters so much that I almost hate to read the books all the way through in case something bad might happen to any of them….but that’s like saying I might as well not live because something bad might happen to me….or I might as well not fall in love because it might not last forever.

Hey, life’s a tragedy: no one gets out alive. The magic is enjoying it fully in the meanwhile. The Emmett Love stories sat this as clearly as it has ever been said.

After all, if I hadn’t read the books I’d never have met, and fallen so deeply in love with Emmett, Shrug, Rose, Gentry, Rudy (especially Rudy), and all the rest of these deeply felt, intimately-drawn people who spring full-grown from John Locke’s imagination.

Thank you John, for bringing them to life, and for sharing them with me. If it’s not too much trouble, could you please write twenty or thirty more? ;-)

    • Valerie says:

I agree with Wm, it has been a long time since I found not one but two series that I fall completely in love with! It is so easy to wrap yourself up in the reality that John Locke creates, when I stop reading for the night or finish a book it is hard to snap back into boring reality! Please keep them coming John, I would be lonely without Emmett Love, Rudy and definitely Donovan Creed! Love Love LOVE these books!!!!

  17. joy says:

  26. Dianne says:

Just finished the Emmett Love books & can’t say enough how much I love both series. I am eagerly awaiting new books – I hope they are published soon!

  27. Iain says:

Having just finished “Now & Then” (with ALL your other books queued and waiting in my Kindle app), I’ve got to say that the only other authors who have made me laugh so hard out loud are Terry Pratchett and Tom Sharpe. D’Augie’s misfortunes had me chuckling but, when it all came to a head, I was roaring with laughter, and in the seating area of a swimming pool, while my son trained – it should have been embarrassing, but through tears of laughter, I just didn’t care!!

Many many thanks for some wonderful books, and the best belly laugh in some time (I tried to tell my wife about the excerpt later, but kept dissolving into tears of laughter again! She’s going to read them herself now). I am so looking forward to all the rest of them.

May your career be as long as your genius is great!

  28. Christine says:

Its awesome to find an author who can give you 2 completely loveable characters like Creed and Love. Have so enjoyed reading all of your books, I tend to go through them muh to quickly.
